mock up of FRONT PAGE OF A prjoposed ‘wykehamist websites’ section of THE winchester college website
(Mock up produced by Alex Reid, 11.5.22).
WYKEHAMIST WEBSITES
In 2022, as part of its archiving activity, Winchester College started Wykehamist Websites - a collection of archived copies of websites produced by Old Wykehamists. The purpose of the collection is to provide permanent online access to this otherwise ephemeral material - in the same way that the College adds books by Old Wykehamists to its library. The first website to be included in the collection was Lives Retold, produced in retirement by Alexander Reid (College, 1955-1959). It is an online archive of life stories, including those of the author and several other Old Wykehamists. The currently archived Wykehamist Websites, including the life stories of Old Wykehamists at the Lives Retold website, are listed below.
Because contemporary websites will progressively disappear, we believe this conserved material about the later lives of Winchester pupils, which will remain permanently available online, will become of increasing historical interest. It is intended that the collection will gradually grow as other websites produced by Old Wykehamists are added to the archive.
Those bolded in the list below are websites created by Old Wykehamists. Those not bolded are life stories of Old Wykehamists contained within the Lives Retold website.

Note by Alex Reid. In the mock-up above the links point to freestanding websites. Under this proposal these websites would all be conserved, by archiving copies within the Winchester College website. The links would then all be internal to the Winchester College website, and the material would continue to be available online when the freestanding websites cease operation.
