Victor Hoffbrand is Emeritus Professor of Haematology at University College, London. He was born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1935. After education at Bradford Grammar School, he gained an Open Scholarship in 1953 to The Queen's College, Oxford. He qualified in medicine at the University of Oxford in 1959. Hoffbrand has written over 700 scientific articles and chapters in books. He became one of the 250 most quoted scientists in 1976. He co-authored the textbook Hoffbrand's Essential Haematology which has sold over 400,000 copies and has been translated into 14 languages including Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. He has built one of the world’s leading collections of English Delftware apothecary jars.
