simon schaffer, born 1955
historian of science
Simon J. Schaffer is professor of the history and philosophy of science at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge and was editor of The British Journal for the History of Science from 2004 to 2009. He took his undergraduate degree and PhD at Trinity College Cambridge. In 1974, while an undergraduate at Trinity, he captained the winning college team in the erudite BBC quiz show University Challenge.
