Sarah Rowland, Born 1858
Before her marriage, Sarah Rowland worked as a parlour maid for the Rev. Kitelee Baily, vicar of St. Lawrence’s Church, Bradwell, now part of the new city of Milton Keynes. A larger than life figure, Baily had served in the East India Company as a young man. He achieved fame as a cross-country runner, and rode to hounds three days a week. In 1881 Sara Rowland married George Browne, who worked on the trains between London and Scotland as a ‘travelling sorter’ in the General Post Office. Sara and George had five children, all daughters.
