Robert James Mair, Baron Mair, CBE, FRS, FICE, FREng is a geotechnical engineer who, after a career as a consultant specialising in the geotechnical aspects of tunnels, was Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He was a Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge from 1998 to 2001 and Master of Jesus College, Cambridge, from 2001 to 2011. From 2017 to 2018 he was President of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is a crossbench member of the House of Lords. The son of a Cambridge University professor of Aeronautical Engineering, he was educated at the Leys School, Cambridge, and the University of Cambridge.
