Dame (Henrietta Miriam) Ottoline Leyser DBE FRS is a British plant biologist, Professor of Plant Development at the University of Cambridge and director of the Sainsbury Laboratory, Cambridge. She was educated at the University of Cambridge as an undergraduate student of Newnham College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 followed by a PhD in Genetics. Post-doctoral research in Indiana University preceded a lectureship at the University of York, where Leyser worked from 1994 to 2010. It was announced in May 2020 that Prof. Leyser would be taking up the post of chief executive at UK Research & Innovation. Operating across the whole of the UK with a combined budget of more than £7 billion, UKRI brings together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK, and Research England.
