AUTHOR & CAMPAIGNER

Marion Shoard is an influential author and campaigner in two areas - environment and later life. She read zoology at Oxford University, and town and country planning at Kingston-upon-Thames Polytechnic. She then worked for four years at the Council for the Preservation of Rural England. Her first book, The Theft of the Countryside, described the devastating effect of industrial agriculture and agricultural subsidies on the countryside. Subsequent books propelled the Right to Roam movement. Latterly she has written on how to handle later life.
