Devoted Mormon and Mother of Six.
Lucie James’ grandfather John Richards Howard heard the gospel while serving in the British navy. He jumped overboard, swam to shore, and worked his way to Utah, where Brigham Young (founder of the Mormon religion) hired him as a scout to meet emigration groups and direct them through the mountains. Her parents, John and Sarah Howard, married in 1895. the day after the wedding her father departed for a three year mission to Switzerland. On his return John trained as a chiropractor and they started a family, Lucie being one of their nine children. In 1925 Lucie married Cecil James. He worked for the Superior Lumber Company and held senior positions in the Mormon Church. Lucie and Cecil had six children and nineteen grandchildren.
