John Noble, born 1937
LANDOWNER & OYSTER FARMER

John Noble, who was known as Johnny and was educated at Eton, tried his hand at banking and the wine business before he inherited the Ardkinglas Estate at Loch Fyne, Scotland. Ardinglas House had been built in 1905 by Johnny’s great grandfather Arthur Noble. He was a senior figure in the Armstrong armements and warship building company. After inheriting Ardkinglas, Johnny Noble teamed up with Andy Lane to create a thriving oyster farming business in the neighbouring Loch Fyne. This grew to sell over a million oysters a year all over the world, and embraced a chain of Locy Fyne restaurants serving Loch Fyne seafood. Johnny Noble died in 2002 at the age of 65, the estate being inherited by his nephew, the archictect David Sumsion.
