PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY
Sir John Meurig Thomas FRS is a Welsh chemist, historian of science and educator primarily known for his work on heterogeneous catalysis, solid-state chemistry, and surface and materials science. Much of his research has involved creating new solid catalysts. The son of a coal miner, he held professorial posts at Aberystwyth University and the University of Cambridge. He became Director of the Royal Institution, and returned to Cambridge as Master of Peterhouse.
