SOLDIER WHO FOUGHT IN THE BATTLE OF WATERLOO

John Jack fought in the Peninsula War (1807-14) and at Waterloo (1815) under the command of the Duke of Wellington. After serving in the army for 23 years he was discharged and returned home to Scotland where he married the sweetheart that he had left behind. He was an early Chelsea Out-Pensioner. He was awarded three medals, the Peninsular War General Service Medal with 12 clasps, the Valiant Stormers Medal and the Waterloo Medal. He lived to the grand old age of 90. Close to the end of his life, in a rare photograph of such an army veteran, of 27 battles in which he took part early in the nineteenth century, he was photographed proudly wearing his medals.
