CAMBRIDGE LAW DON & PIPING EXPERT

James Campbell was for many years a law don, specialising in Roman Law, at Pembroke College Cambridge. This followed a period practising in London as a barrister. During the Second World War he had served with great distinction in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, for which he was awarded the Military Cross. Like his father, a judge in the Indian Civil Service, James Campbell was an international authority on highland piping. This led him to travel the world judging piping competitions. He never married, and died in Scotland in 2003.
