PIONEERING ENGINEER
Isambard Kingdom Brunel was an English civil and marine engineer who is considered one of the greatest figures of the Industrial Revolution. His projects were immensely ambitious, and had to overcome many setbacks and diffiicultiies. In addition to the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol he built numerous tunnels and bridges for the Great Western Railway, of which he was chief engineer. He also designed and built three pioneering steamships, the SS Great Western, the SS Great Britain, and the SS Great Eastern. They were at their time the largest steamships in the world.
