PROFESSOR OF THEORETICAL GEOPHYSICS
Herbert Huppert, FRS, is Professor of Theoretical Geophysics at the University of Cambridge. He was born in Sydney, Australia, when his Jewish parents had fled from Nazi Vienna. He was educated at Sydney High School and Sydney University. He took his PhD at the University of California, San Diego. The rest of his career was at Cambridge University, as a Fellow of King’s College. He is noted for his work on applying fluid-mechanical principles to the earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography, and geology. He has also carried out research on carbon capture.
