HARRY BANN, BORN 1902
TOWN CLERK OF HUDDERSFIELD

Harry Bann was born in Stockport, Cheshire, on 6 December 1902. After serving his articles with a local firm, he was admitted as a solicitor in 1926, and in July 1929 was invited to become Assistant Solicitor with the Stockport Corporation. He subsequently served as Town Clerk of Rochdale, Lancashire, from 1935 to 1945, acting also as A.R.P. Controller and Food and Fuel Executive Officer during the Second World War. In 1945, he moved to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, as Town Clerk and remained there until his retirement in 1968, when he was appointed O.B.E.. After his retirement he was appointed to chair a number of planning enquiries, including those at Birmingham and Nottingham, and also worked for the Legal Aid Office at Leeds. He died at Highburton, Huddersfield, on 28 September 1998.
