gordon watts, born 1918
ARMY OFFICER
After school Gordon Watts worked as a clerk in a public utility company. In 1937, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Territorial Army. In 1939 his brigade in the Royal Regiment of Artillery was called up into active service. He was promoted through the ranks, serving in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, and became a temporary Major in 1946. He married Veronica in 1940, with whom he had four children. After the war the served in Germany and then in Leeds. In 1959 Gordon left the army under the cloud of a court martial for a minor offence, and separated from Veronica. After leaving the army Gordon worked for Schweppes, and then in a bank. He died in 1974.
