Derek Niemann is the author of three non-fiction books, on British prisoners of war who found solace in birdwatching, on his grandfather’s membership of the SS, and on the destruction of British forests. He worked for 16 years for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, editing their youth magazines. He has written the Guardian Country Diary. He also tutors courses at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, including a creative writing course on Telling your Family Story.
