A graduate of Cambridge University, David Southward was a pioneer of the Cambridge Phenomenon - the explosive growth of high technology companies in and around Cambridge from the 1960s onwards. He was a co-founder, with Tim Eiloart and Rodney Dale, of Cambridge Consultants. This has grown into the large technology consulting company in Cambridge. It has more than 900 staff, and has created more than 5,000 patents for its clients. He was also for nine years technical director at Sinclair Research - innovators under Clive Sinclair in low-cost miniaturised computers, watches, and televisions.
