david mackay, born 1967
scientist and communicator
This life story has been compiled as a tribute to Sir David John Cameron MacKay. The first Regius Professor of Engineering at Cambridge University, he was an extremely eminent scientist who was also a remarkable communicator. His book ‘Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air’ rang the alarm bell on climate change in a way which was both rational and persuasive. His lectures were passionate and gripping. He also served as Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change. He died tragically young, just before his fiftieth birthday.
