CHRISTOPHER HERD, BORn 1990
REMOTE WORKING ENTREPRENEUR
Christopher Herd is an entrepreneur whose company Firstbase provides a total package of equipment and services for firms that want to adopt remote working. The firm, which is headquartered in Scotland but operates entirely through remote working by its worlwide staff, grew during the 2020 Covid pandemic, and in early 2021 obtained venture capital funding of $13m. Herd is an evangelist for remote working, arguing that firms in the knowledge industry will be driven into it by pressure from remote working competitors who can draw in the best staff from a worlwide pool. He argues that additional benefits are savings in office space and better quality of life for employees. Herd, whose parents own three fish and chip shops in Aberdeen, studied architecture at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.
