BARRY STAPLEY, BORN 1944

Barry Stapley was born in Exeter, the son of a postman. In 1958 his family moved from a prefab to a home they had bought on a council estate. Barry showed great athletic promise from an early age, becoming a competitive swimmer and water polo player when he was 16. After taking his degree and PhD at Imperial College, Barry joined the Communications Studies Group at University College. He is seen above seated at the Remote Meeting Table, designed for the Civil Service department. Barry describes in his chronological life story his subsequent wide ranging career as a telecommunications engineer and consultant.
