CHARITY MANAGEMENT & AMATEUR DRAMATICS

Alison Du Cane tells the story of her life. Her parents, her childhood, her schooldays, and her marriage, immediately after university, to fellow student Leslie Du Cane. The upbringing of her three children, and her work as a school and charity administrator. Woven into this memoir is the story of her family home, Hanover Lodge in Holland Park. It had been in her family since the 1840s. Alison and Leslie gradually acquired Hanover Lodge by buying various parts from her parents over a period of 25 years; they lived there for a total of 37 years, before moving to a historic riverside house in Hammersmith. Alison’s numerous interests include choral singing, swimming, cycling, and most notably amateur dramatics - as one of the key actors and directors of the Ladbroke Players. She and Leslie also have a longstanding affection for the island of Colonsay in the Hebrides, where they have spent many of their family holidays over the years.
